A person who laced sweets with tranquilliser and provided them to children at a summer program in the region has confessed to sexual crimes against two boys aged nine and ten years old.

The accused was taken into custody after eight minors and a grown-up became sick at the facility in mid-summer.

The 76-year-old, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, confessed to a total of 17 charges when he stood at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week.

Nevertheless, he refused to admit a single sexual charge he was facing, which was against a nine-year-old boy.

The accused was kept in jail ahead of a subsequent court date on November 28th.

'Sweet game'

The prosecutor, prosecuting, detailed the criminal behavior to the judicial body.

She said his victims were children from difficult backgrounds who were attending a summer camp which he operated.

The defendant conducted a "sweet game" with the children, Mrs Prior stated, in which he would go into the sleeping quarters when they were preparing to sleep and tell them to consume candy "as quickly as they can".

She stated to the judge the man had engaged in this activity with the children "for many years", and youngsters had previously become sick the subsequent day.

She said the defendant had been able to explain this over a long period as the children being "overexcited from fun", until his stepson had worries in summer 2025.

The legal representative added: "Recently" his stepson had concerns about the situation, with valid cause.

"They resolved" to investigate in the individual's items."

The prosecutor said items including baby oil, Vaseline and injection devices were discovered, and his stepchild alerted the authorities about his worries.

She explained the man continued to engage in the "sweet game" with six youngsters that time - July 26th - and they were all ill the following morning.

"The police had not arrived by that time," she stated further.

The oversight body, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, earlier informed that it was investigating the police response of the situation.

Mrs Prior said the children were having difficulty walking due to their sickness, so the family member called the police a second time.

She explained Ruben then conducted the "sweet game" in a room of five children.
