Fall Classic Game 7 Captures Over 50 Million Viewers Across the US, Canada and Japan Regions.

The exciting 11-inning clash where the Dodgers beat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 drew a total 51 million spectators in the US, Canada, and Japanese markets. MLB reported this represents the highest-rated World Series Game 7 after the 1991 edition contest between the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Details

Last Saturday’s epic game secured 27.33M audience members on Fox Sports networks, its Spanish-language channel and their streaming platforms. According to Nielsen, it was the second most-watched program of the week.

It also is the most-watched World Series game after the 2017 edition final game between the Dodgers and Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This represents a 16% improvement compared to the previous Game 7 between the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game placed fourth, Game 4 ranked seventh, the fifth game came in eighth, and the third game finished in thirteenth place.

Global Viewership Figures

In the Canadian market, the climactic game recorded 11.6 million viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports channel. This was the most-watched English-language program in the country after the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final contest began at 9 PM local time, it drew 12 million. This followed last Friday’s sixth game – where World Series MVP Yamamoto gave up a single run in six innings – recorded over 13 million spectators, making it the most-watched World Series matchup on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Overall Averages and Trends

The entire seven-game World Series drew 15.71M audience members on the Fox network, a two percent rise from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This marks the initial instance after 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has recorded viewership increases for two straight seasons.

Including the opening game telecast on Univision, the complete American viewership was 16.1 million. The total Fall Classic average in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The full playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 drew 8.09 million watchers, an 8% rise over last year and the network’s strongest playoff performance after 2017.

MLB stated that the Fall Classic was broadcast in 203 nations and regions by forty-four media partners in sixteen various tongues.
